This is my final semester at the University of Maryland and . . . I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER.
No offense, UMD, and I luv ya foreva, but I’m sick and tired of ya, bro. Sick and tired. The campus is nice, but you can’t park anywhere on it. It’s a long walk up hills and down to get anywhere (for example, I went up, down, up, down across about a mile of campus today to get from class to work), and I hate walking with a deadline. Books are uber expensive. In fact, I’m pretty sure it should count as illegal price-gouging, but that’s another post.
And let’s not even get STARTED on effing College Park, because we wouldn’t be done for weeks. Seriously, it sucks. In every possible way, it sucks.
I’m going to be so thrilled to see the backside of College Park. I have a lease that runs til August, but I’ll sublet over the summer and be outta here (one way or another) by the end of May. I graduate the 20th or so, and I don’t plan to stick around soon. I have two possible plans: 1) my amazing super-duper fun, expensive like hell, but awesome and amazing and really freaking cool plan, which is to go and get a master’s degree in London, then get a job there. 2) Get a job here, skip the time and expense involved in going to London, save up my money and go to the 2012 Olympics there in London. See? Either way, I go to London.
In any case, last week was the first one of classes. I don’t feel like giving too detailed a run-down of my classes, but: Latin is going to be fun, like I’d hoped; my Arthurian legends class is basically the bomb; my American Lit class should be okay; I switched out of a humor class because, ironically, it wasn’t going to be any fun; switched into an American novel class which, ironically, will be fun; am going to have to just slog through my final Comm class, which is a quantitative research class (yey, statistics!).
On Tuesday, it snowed. As it snowed, everyone had class. Once it stopped snowing, of course, they canceled classes. This led to a mass exodus, which was insanity on a stick. It involved a lot of me waiting around for buses that were running late, running to class because I was already fifteen minutes late for it, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Then everything was covered with ice that night. Even more fun. Classes were delayed the next day. Of course, last night (precisely one week later) it snowed again, but it didn’t really stick and it didn’t disrupt anything significantly. Two weeks of school, two weeks of snowy, cold weather. Tomorrow ought to be a treat, with a high of thirty degrees Fahrenheit.
¿Que mas?
Oh, I missed the Superbowl because of work. I could see the score, time, and downs/yards, but that was all. I got back to my place with about fifteen minutes. Almost the first thing I hear as I feverishly try to catch a glimpse of the game: “That was a classic game! It was just a great game!” *facepalm*
With all the fun/homework/crap that’s been going on, I haven’t really had the leisure (nor really the inclination) to get any writing or drawing done, though I have some of both in the works. I even have a gymnastics montage in the works, but haven’t gotten very far on that, either. I’ll compensate by posting another part of my montage series tonight at some point.
Until then, I need to get some (a lot) of reading done. Adieu. Parting is such sweet sorrow.
